4 Quick Tips for Your End of Summer Organization

It’s official. The carefree days of summer have officially ended.  Our summer guests have left, vacations are over, and the kids have headed back to school. Many parents and grandparents are finding themselves with some welcome quiet time.

With the holidays a few months away, this time-period is actually a sweet spot for relaxing in your home sweet home. In addition to lounging on the patio or catching up on some new shows, we recommend using this time to do some home organization. Here are four tips on how to put organization front-and-center on your to-do list:

  • Mark Your Calendars: Now is the time to figure out your schedule for the final quarter of 2017.  What trips do you plan to take? Do you need to see any doctors before the end of the year?  What events are you and your family planning for the holidays?  Just as teachers and students are mapping out their semester, you can be use this time to plan your fall calendar. Remember, with the shorter and shorter days ahead, there will be less time to get everything done, which is why an organized calendar is crucial for ensuring you have a fantastic fall and holiday season.
  • Choose a Home Project: We hope you included a home project or two on your calendar.  In Florida, fall is an excellent season for remodels, updates, or repairs. Less rain and more moderate temperatures in the coming months means it’s a good time for a landscaping or home exterior project. As real estate professionals, we fully support our customers in all matters of the home.  We would be happy to refer you to a home professional to help with your home projects.
  • Clean-Up Day: At the very least, set aside one day for a cleaning project. Are there blow-up rafts, beach chairs, and other remnants of summer crowding your garage space? Is that hall closet packed full of items you’ve been meaning to put into storage? Set aside one day to address items causing clutter. If possible, consider donating items you no longer need to a local charity.  Consider making a little holiday cash by selling some of your items.
  • Organize Supplies: In the spirit of back-to-school, we also think this is the perfect time of year to restock needed supplies.  Start by cleaning out the junk drawer or supply closet.  Take an inventory of what you have and what you need.  Do you have a collection of inkless pens that need thrown out?  Are the batteries dead in the flashlight?  Are you almost out of notepads?  Once you have the list of needs, head to the office supply stores and reap the benefits of those final days of back-to-school deals and clearance sales.

As full-service real estate professionals, we would be happy to align you with local experts to help with interior design or organization projects.  We also hope these tips will help you turn your home into a more functional, comfortable place to live.  If you’re a Florida resident needing help finding the perfect home or selling your current home, call Dick and Karla Nielsen at 813-294-5786.
