5 Gratifying Ideas for Your Empty Nest

-5 Gratifying Ideas for Your Empty Nest-

An empty nest can be a great place to live, especially when you have customized it for your own comfort and interests. Whether your kids just left for college, or you have waited a long time to let your ideas fly, our real estate team has some self-gratifying ideas for your empty nest.

Creative Home Upgrades for Empty Nesters

The Tampa Bay area offers great weather, gorgeous communities, and amazing waterways for empty nesters to enjoy. Each day brings an opportunity to discover new places and things to do, but home is where the heart is for many of us. Empty nesters, consider making your heart flutter with these home updates and upgrades:

  1. Make the most of a master bedroom. If there is one home update that could change your life, it is upgrading your bedroom. Treat yourself with luxury linens, a tranquil new paint color, or perhaps a new high-end mattress for sleeping like a baby bird in a cozy nest. If you have extra space or an empty room nearby, you may consider enlarging the size to a master suite with additions such as a garden tub in the bath or a wonderful walk-in closet.
  2. Cook up some fun in a gourmet kitchen. To really spice up your life, consider brushing up on your culinary skills. Your newfound love of cooking could inspire you to complete a total kitchen remodel.  Treat yourself by adding a double oven for baking pastries or a fancy new stovetop for stir-frying exotic recipes. A kitchen remodel could also provide a major return on investment if you plan to sell your home in the future.
  3. Impress your friends with an entertainment area. With the kids grown, you may have more time and opportunities to entertain and connect with friends. Rather than setting the table for the traditional dinner party, consider setting the stage for a posh game night with ambient lighting and plush furniture in what used to be the kid’s TV room. As another option, toss the old sofa and upgrade to a home theatre with recliners for the ultimate movie nights.
  4. Design the spare room of your dreams. Extra space plus extra time equals the perfect setting for a hobby room. Transform your child’s old bedroom into a special space for crafts, sewing, or meditating. Commonly, many empty nesters use this space as a home gym or workout area, but don’t limit yourself to any one thing. Think about your current interests and needs.  For example, consider designing an office with stylized seating for more comfortable video chats. Call it your “Zoom Room” for chatting with friends and family.
  5. Lure more visitors with the ultimate guest suite. Many of us love entertaining guests, and nothing warms our hearts like a visit from our children. Enhancing the quality and features of our guestroom or guest suite can make the stay more comfortable for everyone, including ourselves. A guest-designated bathroom and cozy bedding, of course, will promote privacy and comfort. But for next-level guest accommodations, consider adding a mini-fridge stocked with water, empty dresser drawers and hangers in the closet for their clothing, floorspace for shoes, and luxury linens to help them relax and enjoy a longer stay.
