How to Fall into an Organized Home

-How to Fall into an Organized Home-

For a fresh start this fall, our Tampa Bay real estate team is helping you sharpen your organizational skills. We believe cultivating a more organized home now will prepare you for a fantastic final quarter and a happy holiday season.

6 Simple Steps for Home Organization

  1. Prepare for Projects: This time of year, there are a bunch of retail discounts on office supplies and organizational items due to back-to-school inventory and sales. Stock up now on the things you might need for your fall projects, such as labels, ink, markers, or divider trays for organizing that junk drawer. If cleaning the garage is on the to-do list, plastic storage bins of various sizes would be important to have on hand.
  2. Reduce Clutter: If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a million times…clearing clutter is the key to organization. It is also especially important if downsizing or moving is in your future. Scheduling a morning or an afternoon for a decluttering project will help you to clear space, allow you to establish organization for better productivity, and potentially help you find lost items you’ve been missing. If you come across any Halloween décor or other holiday decorations, be sure to set them aside in a box for easy reach in the coming months.
  3. Reorganize Items: After you have reduced clutter by tossing, donating, or selling unnecessary things, you will be able to start a strategic reorganizing process. This may include moving around household items, putting décor or accessories in new spots, finding a better storage area for keepsakes, making things more easily accessible, and rearranging furniture for better flow or Feng shui.
  4. Label and Categorize: After all items and pieces have found a new home in your home, it is time to be detail-oriented with categorizing. For example, if you’ve cleared a shelf for your favorite books, consider arranging them by cover-binding colors, such as an ombre color scheme from the darkest blues to the lightest pinks. Labeling is synonymous with organizing, so also label those drawers, boxes, or bins to optimize productivity and simplify future chances of finding stowed items. Martha Stewart would be so proud of you.
  5. Upgrade for Efficiency: During these organizational projects, you may have found certain items in your home needing an upgrade. For example, was your printer up-and-running for printing those labels? If not, purchasing ink or a new printer now could be a wise move before you find yourself in a bind trying to print address labels for your upcoming holiday cards. Also, if you got rid of bulky furniture during the decluttering process, opt for new space-saving furniture, such as storage ottomans, desk modules, or multi-functional carts. Those are great choices for seniors looking to downsize to a smaller space in the future.
  6. Fall for the Outdoors: This season provides ideal weather for clearing out weeds, pruning, pressure washing, and organizing your outdoor areas. Tossing rusted furniture and adding a new outdoor dining set could position you for hosting holiday guests. If your garden needs attention, consider planting perfectly organized rows of broccoli, celery, radishes, eggplant, and other veggies to start cultivating now for your perfectly pre-planned holiday events.
