In celebration of American Family Month, our real estate team is taking a deep dive into Tampa Bay’s home buying trends for the everchanging American families.

Clearly, family dynamics have changed over the years, including in the ways we choose, buy, and sell real estate.  For starters, the definition of our “family home” could mean anything from empty nesters with two cats, a mom and her child, or a multi-generational family.

In Florida, homebuyers have a unique array of requests during a home search for a family home – ranging from a desire for pet-friendly districts with parks – to restricted 55+ senior condo communities on the beach. Here are the top three trends our real estate team is seeing in today’s housing market.

1. EXTENDED FAMILIES & MULTI-GENERATIONAL SEARCHES:

In light of world events, many extended family members are moving closer to each other for companionship and support.  Millennials and Generation X customers are asking us to find economical options for moving their Boomer parents to a home closer to them, as opposed to a costly Assisted Living Community. A nearby home is also a perfect solution and investment for families that do not have room to move a parent into their current home.

Seniors are particularly finding and loving the convenience of small one-story houses, townhomes, duplex-style homes, first-floor condominiums, condos with elevator access, and villas located in communities near their family members.
