Tampa Kitchen Home Remedies

-3 Home Remedies for Better Sleep-

As Florida springs forward this month, the loss of an hour could be making it tough to achieve a good night’s sleep. Fortunately, Tampa Bay homeowners may be able to find home remedies for sleep in your kitchen.

Over the years, our professional real estate team has provided referrals to interior designers for helping customers configure homes and bedroom spaces for better sleep, such as Feng Shui layouts and light-blocking blinds, but there are other sleep remedies with nothing to do with bedrooms or interior design.

Finding Solutions for Sleep in Tampa Kitchens

Here are nutritious ideas and home remedies to help you achieve better sleep this spring.

  1. Enjoy Foods with Melatonin: As a naturally occurring hormone in your body, Melatonin can help regulate sleep and wake cycles. For a healthy dose of Melatonin, consider enjoying a serving of fresh cherries before bedtime. You can also find cherry juice concentrate in many Tampa Bay area grocery stores and health food stores. It is worth noting that the nutritional benefits of cherries also include anti-inflammatory properties, antioxidants, fiber, vitamins, and minerals.
  2. Make a Snack with Magnesium: Magnesium is an essential mineral needed for sleep quality. Many people are deficient in Magnesium, which is why it is important to know where there are good sources of this nutrient. Generally, you can find it in seeds, nuts, bananas, avocados, and other tasty snacks. For example, consider a small serving of almonds, which offers both Magnesium and Melatonin.
  3. Enjoy a Treat with Tryptophan: A promoter of sleep, Tryptophan contains amino acids that increase your body’s naturally occurring Melatonin and boosts Serotonin (feel good hormones). Many people know that the Tryptophan in turkey can cause sleepiness, but other foods with Tryptophan include walnuts, eggs, cheese, sesame seeds, and salmon.

Be sure to discuss any dietary changes or sleep issues with your doctor. Studies show the ideal amount of sleep for most people is 7 to 9 hours per night.  In addition to the above home remedies, you may also make simple lifestyle changes such as avoiding caffeinated beverages or getting more exercise. Of course, if noise is an issue at your Tampa Bay area home, you might also consider purchasing a “white noise” machine or playing light music to create a more tranquil sleeping environment.
In addition to talking with a doctor for medical support, or strategizing with an interior designer for help with home design and bedroom layouts, we also suggest researching the free information available from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the National Sleep Foundation.
