Home Trends for Springing Forward

The sun is setting later and flowers are in bloom.  Spring inspires us to look forward to new beginnings, which is why it’s a perfect time to clean, update and refresh your home.

In addition to “spring cleaning” your home, many people mark this season with completion of certain home tasks.  For example, you might remember to change the battery in a smoke detector when you change the clocks. And did you know there’s a home-centric mnemonic device for remembering which direction to change your clocks? It says in the spring you bring out or “bring forward” your garden furniture, while in the fall you “set back” your garden furniture. Granted, many Florida residents could argue the validity of that saying, considering we enjoy year-round outdoor seating.

A wonderful way to bring spring into your home is by refreshing your décor.  Imagine how new paint colors would look on your walls, or consider adding spring color schemes in your home with accents, pillows, rugs and curtains.  Pantone named “Greenery” its color of the year for 2017, which is a yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring.  The color celebrates the feeling of renewed life and flourishing plants.  If green isn’t your color, you might enjoy adding touches of pastel pink or sunshine yellow this season, which are both on trend for 2017.

In addition to color, think about delicate, softer fabrics.  Instead of a heavy area rug, consider a variety of lighter canvas rugs in spring shades or floral designs. Heavy, layered drapery could also be exchanged for sheer curtains to lift the feel of a room.  Sheer curtains will also help you enjoy the extended sunlight in the evenings.

As the sun is out later and the weather is pleasant, you may find yourself wanting to be outdoors more.  Consider treating yourself to new outdoor features such as a fountain or outdoor sofa.

No matter if your budget is big or small, there are endless options for celebrating your home this time of year.  We can look at spring as a chance to revitalize our living spaces into a place that better serves the needs of our family and pets.
