Halloween Pets Costumes, Haunted Houses

The Tampa Bay area will be celebrating Halloween this year with more events than Count Dracula can count.  We all know about the highly publicized Howl-O-Scream at our beloved Busch Gardens and Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando, but there are many other local happenings.  Here’s a sampling of affordable events throughout our area.

Halloween Activities and Local Events

–Horror Movies:For those who love horror movies, you won’t want to miss seeing some of your favorites on the big screen.  Now through Oct. 31, Tampa Theater is hosting “A Nightmare on Franklin Street,” a Halloween series featuring nightly showings of classic horror films like The Omen and Carrie, a few family friendly movies like Hocus Pocus, as well as ghastly ghost tours of the historical theater.Visit TampaTheatre.org for details.

–Senior Events: Local community centers are hosting spooktacular events. For example, on Oct. 28 at 5:30 pm, there will be a “Halloween for Seniors” at Town ‘N Country Senior Center, 7606 Paula Drive, Tampa.Costumes are encouraged for this DJ dance.

–Children’s Activities: Children, of course, love to celebrate the holiday. Glazer Children’s Museum in downtown Tampa will be hosting “Boo and Goo” this week,which includes kid’s science programs to take the scare out of Halloween. Visit GlazerMuseum.org for details.

–Community Trick-Or-Treating:There are several trick-or-treating events for kids.  Starting on Oct. 28 at 5 p.m., Downtown Dunedin will close roads to allow local merchants to pass out free treats to children.  Participants will display orange pumpkin decals along Main Street and Broadway Avenue.  There will also be a Halloween exhibit and costume contest at Dunedin’s Historical Museum at 6:45 p.m.

On Oct. 29 at 11 a.m., you can enjoy “Halloween in the Village,” while costumed children and pets descend upon Davis Islands Village for trick-or-treating, fun,and contests.

And on Oct. 31 at 4:30 p.m., Safety Harbor will host “Halloween on Main,” as local businesses down Main Street join together in offering a safe trick-or-treat zone for kids.

–Family Fun: The annual John’s Pass Seafood Festival will be held Oct. 27-30 with over 100 seafood options.  The festival features a Halloween party and costume contest, a fishing tournament, a world-record attempt for the largest Bloody Mary toast, crab races, trick-or-treating, music, and arts to benefit Pinellas County schools, area small businesses, and the Fisherman Lost at Sea memorial. Clearly, there is great fun to be had this week.  Check local listings for official details on all events. We’d also like to remind you that the 2016 Annual CABA Classic will be held Oct. 28 at Cheval Golf and Athletic Club.  We are proud members of the Carrollwood Area Business Association (UseCABA.com),which hosts this golf tournament to benefit Operation Helping Hand, a nonprofit providing assistance and support for the families of wounded and injured active-duty military.
