-Memorial Day 2020-
Memorial Day is usually bustling with activities to celebrate veterans and public events to remember and honor our fallen soldiers. Due to recent months of losses, stay-at-home orders, and social distancing, however, it makes sense for 2020 events to be more solemn and subdued than Memorial Day celebrations in our past.
As real estate professionals caring deeply for all those serving our country, we would like to remind everyone that the Tampa Bay region is a military-friendly area with ample opportunities and organizations to help us celebrate our armed forces this month and throughout the year.
3 Patriotic Memorial Day Ideas
Large-scale public events may be limited this Memorial Day, but you can still mark the occasion with a family get-together or by committing to supporting the military in other ways.
1.) First, for those looking for ways to recognize Memorial Day at home, you may enjoy hosting a small family gathering for a few close relatives. Serve red, white, and blue-themed dishes at a cookout, or hang patriotic décor with the U.S. flag to celebrate our great country.
2.) Consider setting up a memorial table to honor military members and family members who have passed. Your tribute could display photos of your loved ones, their military uniform and badges, or wartime letters and papers to inspire everyone to reminisce.
3.) Also, think about decorating a gravesite. Originally known as “Decoration Day” in the 1800s, mourners used to decorate and bring flowers to the graves of Civil War soldiers. Consider carrying on this honorable tradition by taking flowers to a gravesite of a family member or a fallen soldier buried at a local cemetery.
Honoring Military Across Tampa Bay
The Tampa Bay area has active military bases and veterans living throughout our neighborhoods. MacDill Air Force Base in south Tampa hosts U.S. Central Command, U.S. Special Operations Command, and dozens of other units. All branches are represented, making our region home to Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, and members of the Coast Guard.
Consequently, our area has many non-profits serving these men and women. For example, our real estate team participates in Operation Helping Hand’s monthly dinner at James A. Haley Veterans Hospital. Operation Helping Hand is a nonprofit providing support for the families of wounded and injured active-duty military. Learn more at www.operationhelpinghandtampa.com. This is one example. We encourage you to find your own special ways to support our heroes.
