A Less Than Perfect Home

a less than perfect homeDo you have a clear image of your dream home?  Have you created a list with all the “must-have” features you want?  Will you walk away from a home that doesn’t have the picket fenced yard, the swimming pool or the hardwood floors? (Or all of the above?)

It’s okay to have a wish list of features that you want in a home.  In fact, we encourage it!   Knowing what you want will make searching much easier.   Plus, you’ll increase the chances of finding a property that you like.

But it’s also important to be flexible.  Why?  Because you’re bound to come across homes that fit most of your criteria, but not all. We often hear, “If I could just take the kitchen from this home and put it with the master bedroom in that home, then it would be the perfect place.”  Our experience has shown that if you’re not flexible with your wish list, you could miss out on some otherwise exceptional opportunities.

Keep in mind that most less-than-perfect properties can be improved, depending on your patience and tolerance for work.  If the house fits nearly all of your criteria and price range, but doesn’t have granite counters, or a swimming pool or hardwood floors, remember that all of these can be added at some point in the future.

In fact, the perfect home, at the right price, may not exist on the market. But a home that meets most of your criteria probably does.
