The History & Charm of Carrollwood Village

Beautiful Carrollwood is one of the area’s first planned communities that was conceived as an alternative to South Tampa’s increasingly crowded neighborhoods. In the late 1950’s, developer Matt Jetton purchased 325 acres of citrus land and created the community that was named for the spring-fed Lake Carroll that it surrounds.

As housing demands grew in the early 1970’s, Jetton purchased 2000 more acres NW of Lake Carroll and created Carrollwood Village, which was the second phase of the development. Here handsome custom homes were built around a golf course, now the Carrollwood Country Club which boasts resort-style living, 27-holes of golf and many amenities. The major east-west road bordering the north of Carrollwood Village is Ehrlich Road while N Dale Mabry Highway along the east of Carrollwood Village carries major north-south traffic.
Today Carrollwood Village includes the Carrollwood Cultural Center, “where culture meets community”, which is host to many monthly educational and artsy events. Carrollwood Village residents love the many independent restaurants and shops, highly-rated schools and beautiful tree-shaded neighborhoods. Homes within the Village range from about $200,000 to approximately $1,000,000. This handsome suburban community is conveniently located 15 minutes north of Tampa International Airport and 25 minutes north of downtown Tampa. Much of the community is walk-able and outdoor enthusiasts will find extensive sidewalks and running trails, tropical landscapes, parks and recreation facilities in and around Carrollwood Village.

Even after all these years, Carrollwood remains a vital, energetic and highly desirable place to call home.
