Florida Winter

-4 Florida Ways to Welcome Winter-

There is no downside to welcoming the winter season in Florida.  Unlike up north, Floridians do not need to dread shoveling snow or fear freezing pipes.  Yes, in Florida, we welcome the winter as a wonderful time of the year to be out and about in our communities.

Things to Do During Florida Winters

Whether you are a full-time Florida resident, a snowbird staying for the season, or an out-of-state visitor, our real estate team has a list of five ways you can enjoy the Greater Tampa Bay Area now and into the New Year.

  • Enjoy Seasonal Festivities: We go big with seasonal festivities in Florida. No, you won’t find actual snow, but you will find an ice-skating rink in downtown Tampa’s Winter Village as well as spectacular fireworks over our bays and rivers on New Year’s Eve.  Our outdoor temperatures range between 50° and 75° during the winter months, but don’t be surprised to enjoy temps reaching the 80s on sunny days. This means you might want to order an iced peppermint latte instead of a hot beverage to welcome the first day of winter on Dec. 21.
  • Spend a Sunny Day at the Beach: Because the weather is so fabulous, you can hit the beach, get a tan, fly a kite, and even put your feet in the water. St. Pete Beach, Madeira Beach, Treasure Island, Clearwater, and other surrounding beaches offer warm Gulf waters averaging 60° to 70° water temperatures during the winter. On certain days, you may also want to take a dip in a heated pool, or simply lounge poolside to soak up the Florida sun.
  • Get Your Fill of Greenspaces: One of the greatest things about Florida winters is that we stay green.  No need to stare at bare trees or dead foliage all winter.  From Wesley Chapel down to Riverview, residents in the Greater Tampa Bay area get to enjoy year-round greenery. Additionally, Floridan’s do not have to worry about scrapping ice off the outdoor furniture at their homes or businesses. That means you can welcome Old Man Winter while sipping an iced tea on the patio. Although when nighttime temps occasionally drop into the frigid 40s or 50s, locals do love the novelty of sparking up the firepit to toast marshmallows
  • Take a Stroll Around the City: From museums to dining and shopping, the Tampa Bay area touts many well-established entertainment districts that attract locals and visitors alike.  For years, a few of our most popular destinations have included downtown Tampa, St. Pete, Dunedin, Ybor City, SOHO, Hyde Park, and Channelside.  Notably, the Channelside District has completely transformed.  Sparkman Wharf is the beautifully developed entertainment complex that has taken the place of the former Channelside Bay Plaza.  The new design offers waterfront views for dining, shopping, playing outdoor games, and enjoying music. Additionally, you can find dynamic restaurants, new shops, and waterfront activities in the Tampa Heights and Riverwalk areas of downtown Tampa. It’s no wonder why people flock to Florida every winter to enjoy limitless things to do.
