4 Fall To-Do Ideas for Floridians

Floridians have many reasons to love the fall.  First, it signifies better weather is on the way with less rain and moderate temperatures. Second, for parents and grandparents, fall means the kids are preoccupied with back-to-school activities. This provides perfect conditions for us to focus on our own projects and goals. As you contemplate your fall “to-do” list, here are four ideas for Floridians to consider:

  • Exterior Updates: Shorter days are ahead, which is why it’s time to get exterior updates and routine maintenance done before the time change in November. Consider major updates like roofing and exterior painting now, as longer workdays with sunlight could provide a faster completion time.  In addition, there is less rain than summer and none of that sticky spring pollen to contend with during fall projects.  With hurricane season in full swing, fall is also an optimal time to install new windows and doors, specifically hurricane impact styles.
  • Landscaping & Gardens: Fall provides ideal weather conditions for clearing out weeds, pruning, trimming trees, and other landscaping projects. In contrast to up north, Floridian’s fall projects won’t be brutally ruined by winter snow or ice. Feel free to plant new ferns, palms, cool-season bluegrass, as well as garden vegetables.  Your fall vegetable garden may include broccoli, celery, radishes, eggplant, and other veggies.
  • Patio Areas: Many stores offer end-of-summer discounts on outdoor items in September, which is why this is a perfect time for Floridians to invest in patio décor and furniture. We can enjoy outdoor seating and accessories on a year-round basis. Outdoor dining is quite popular for Floridians wanting to extend their living space while enjoying the beautiful weather.  If you’re craving a fall vibe, you may enjoy toasting marshmallows on a new fire pit. A pumpkin scented candle may also do the trick on Florida’s hot fall nights.
  • Interior Décor: The final quarter of 2018 is an excellent time to evaluate finances and consider budgeting for home décor. The new season invites us to incorporate new colors and textures. Velvety blankets, heavier area rugs, and overstuffed pillows are simple accents to create a cozy feeling. Retail stores will also offer fall deals as they begin making room for holiday items and next year’s inventory.  It is also a good idea to make room for your own holiday inventory, which is why we recommend setting aside at least one day this season to address clutter in closets, junk drawers, garages, and other spaces. Out with the old, and in with the new. Giveaway or consider donating some items to a local charity.
