Heart Healthy Home

-4 Tips for a Heart-Healthy Home-

Home is where the heart is, which is why we are celebrating American Heart Month.  Our Tampa Bay area real estate team is offering a fun list of ideas to create a happy and healthy home.

Of course, running the Gasparilla Distance Classic, going to a Tampa gym, and eating at healthy eateries could all be beneficial to your health.  Remember, however, there are also small changes you can make at home to bring big benefits for heart health.

Ideas to Cultivate Healthier Homes

Here are four simple ways to create a healthier home life.  Please be sure to consult with your physician before starting any new diets, supplements, or exercise programs.

  1. Calm Down with Color: Help control your heartrate by creating a more peaceful vibe throughout your home with color. Color therapy is one of many ways to relax your mood. Consider using certain paint colors around your home to make a noticeable difference in how you feel.  For example, cool shades of blue, gray, and light beige colors create a more calming vibe than bright colors like reds or oranges. The Pantone color of 2020 is Classic Blue, which could be a tranquil shade for your walls or home accents this year.
  2. Upgrade for Relaxation: Adding a specific space in your home for relaxation and meditation could also help you control blood pressure. High blood pressure or “hypertension” can lead to numerous problems, including heart disease through hardening of the arteries, stroke, peripheral vascular disease, and even kidney disease requiring dialysis.  Depending on your budget, you may consider investing in a comfortable chair for relaxing and reading, a home sound system for filling your home with relaxing music, a foot massager, or perhaps installing a garden tub for enjoying warm baths to calm your nerves and lower your blood pressure after a hectic day.
  3. Clean Up Your Fitness Routine: Get a clean bill of health by regularly completing household chores, such as dusting, vacuuming, mopping, taking out the trash, mowing the grass, and doing other yardwork.  Play some up-tempo music in your wireless earbuds, intensify your activities with speed, and you are on your way to counting this as a full-cardio workout for better heart health.  In addition to getting your heart pumping, you will enjoy the perks of a clean and pristine living space.
  4. Play Around with Pets and Friends: Enjoy some exercise with your pets by throwing the ball, playing tug-of-war, tossing Fido’s Frisbee, swirling Kitty’s string, or simply running around the house or backyard with pets.  If you do not have pets, enjoy a solo dance party or play interactive games with friends, such as a beanbag toss in the backyard.  Of course, one of the best ways to enhance heart health is a good run or walk around your Tampa Bay area neighborhood. Take Fido to improve his heart health, too.
